Jim brings a wealth of experience to the firm. As law clerk for Judges Charles Lobban and Frank Jolliffe, Jim acquired firsthand experience and knowledge of the inner workings of our court system. As an Assistant Prosecutor in Fayette County, under then Prosecutor, and now, Fayette County Circuit Judge Paul Blake, Jim tried numerous felony cases. Since 1994, Jim has focused his practice on insurance claims, primarily cases involving automobile accidents, employment law, wrongful discharge, discrimination, workplace injuries, civil rights, police agencies, and toxic torts. At James D. Stacy & Associates he was appointed Interim Managing Attorney for State Farm’s Charleston, West Virginia Litigation office. In, 2008, Jim joined Shaffer & Shaffer to manage the Morgantown office where he continues his focus on auto accidents and other types of accident and injury claims and insurance issues. Jim has also devoted a fair amount of time to teaching: Jim has taught police “in-service” classes on domestic violence, continuing legal education concerning local government agencies, the Freedom of Information Act, “Sunshine Laws” and management of public records. Jim is admitted to the West Virginia and North Carolina Bars.
